Biography

Ramesh K Agarwal was the chair of the Aerospace Engineering Department at Wichita State University and the Executive Director of National Institute for Aviation Research. He worked as faculty at Washington University. Agarwal worked in various scientific and managerial positions at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories in St. Louis. He became the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas Fellow in 1990. He worked as a NRC Research Associate at NASA Ames Research Center and as a Principal Research Engineer at Rao and Associates in Palo Alto, California.

 

Over a period of 35 years, Professor Agarwal has worked in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and Electromagnetics, Computational Aeroacoustics, Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization, Rarefied Gas Dynamics and Hypersonic Flows, Bio-Fluid Dynamics, and Flow and Flight Control. More recently, he has devoted some of his efforts in nanotechnology and renewable energy systems - in particular wind, solar and biomass.

 

He is the author and coauthor of over 500 publications and serves on the editorial board of more than 20 journals. He has given many plenary, keynote and invited lectures at various national and international conferences worldwide. Professor Agarwal continues to serve on many professional, government, and industrial advisory committees. He is a Fellow of eighteen societies. He has received many honors and awards for his research contributions.

Biography

Dean Vučinić, has joined Vesalius College (VeCo) in 2017, which is affiliated to the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He has been affiliated to VUB since 1988. Before joining VeCo, he was guest professor and senior research scientist at the VUB Faculty of Engineering Sciences (IR), as member of its 2 departments: Mechanical Engineering (MECH) and Electronics & Informatics (ETRO). He is also the visiting associate professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology (FERIT), University of Osijek, Croatia, at the department of Software Engineering.

Tunik Yury Vladimirovich was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) on October 3, 1947. In 1965 he graduated from the usual school in the small town of Moscow region and entered the mechanical mathematics Department of Moscow State University by name M. V. Lomonosov (MSU). In 1970 Yu.V. Tunik received higher education and continued study at the graduate school of the same faculty. In 1976 he defended his candidate thesis on gas dynamic lasers and in 2002 the thesis "Dynamics of combustion in two-phase methane containing media" on competition of a scientific degree of the doctor of sciences in physics and mathematics. Since 1974, he works as a researcher in the Research Institute of Mechanics of MSU. His scientific interests lie in the field of mathematical and numerical modelling of detonation combustion and its use in aerospace technology. Last 40 years he is a leading researcher. Yu.V. Tunik is married with two children and five grandchildren.

Biography

Onder Turan received his BSc., MSc. and Ph.D in 1998, 2000 and 2007 respectively from Anadolu University. He became an Associate Professor of Anadolu University in 2013. He is an active teacher and researcher in sustainable energy, the environmental impact of industrial/aero systems, and energy technology. He has also carried out research on the linkages between propulsion, energy, exergy, thermodynamics, environmental impact, sustainability and ecology. His research interests include gas turbines, aircraft propulsion, aero-engines, optimization methods, energy, exergy, cogeneration systems, renewable energy and integrated energy systems. Turan has published more than 60 journal papers or conference papers in the above fields. He has served as a member of technical and scientific committee, panel session chair, reviewer and editor for numerous international conferences and prestigious scientific journals. He is currently work in Eskisehir Technical University as a full professor.

Emin Taner ELMAS,  is a Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Mechanical Engineer, M.Sc., Ph.D., and he was born in 25/06/1974 in Sivas / Turkey. He has graduated from faculty of Mechanical Engineering as B.Sc. in 1995 and then completed his M.Sc. in “Energy” at Mechanical Engineering Department of Dokuz Eylül University in İzmir, Turkey and after that he received his Ph.D. in “Thermodynamics” at Mechanical Engineering Department of Ege University, in İzmir, Turkey. He is an Assistant Professor of Automotive Technology at the Department of Motor Vehicles and Transportation Technologies at Vocational School of Higher Education for Technical Sciences at IGDIR UNIVERSITY , Turkey. He has a joint appointment and he is also an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering & BioScience at the same university.

 

He has also served as an “Assistant Professor” and “Head of Department” of “Energy Systems Engineering” of           “Faculty of Engineering And Natural Sciences” at Iskenderun Technical University (İSTE) in Turkey. He has also served as a Senate Member, Director of Energy Institute, Head of Department of Energy Systems Engineering,  Chairman of Energy Systems Engineering Major Science Branch, Chairman of Institute Board, Member of Institute Board, Member of Faculty Council , at the same University. He also gave lectures at the Mechanical Engineering  Department of  Ege University and also gave  lectures and conferences at other universities.

 

He has worked in various  industrial companies at different scope of supply, sectors, subjects and at  different positions, e.g. Site Chief, Project Manager, Management Representative,  Quality Manager,   Factory Manager, Energy Manager, R&D Manager (CSO-Chief Science Officer, CTO-Chief Technology Officer), Business Development Manager (CBDO-Chief Business Development Officer), Deputy General Manager and General Manager.

 

He has also been serving as a Peer Reviewer and member of SCIEI- Science And Engineering Institute.      Asst. Prof. Dr. ELMAS has served as a Peer Reviewer for NPP- NASA Postdoctoral Program (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, USA) and USRA (Universities Space Research Association, USA). He has also served as a Peer Reviewer  for some NASA EPSCoR and NASA EPSCoR ISS Proposal projects.  He has also made peer reviews for various articles / publications / papers  for some  universities and journals.  Asst. Prof. Dr. ELMAS has also been serving as a  Peer Reviewer and member for the  Education Committee of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) IGTI - International Gas Turbine Institute. In addition, he is serving as an Editor and also an Editorial Board Member of some journals. He is also a member of  American Energy Society (AES). He has been assigned as a “Bentham Science Ambassador” by “Bentham Science Publishers”.


ELMAS has completed his military service as a NATO Officer in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was a “Reserved Officer” as a “2nd Lieutenant” as an   “English-Turkish Interpreter”.  He has served in Sarejevo, Camp Butmir within the SFOR task force of NATO.

Biography

Hassan Hemida is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering. He obtained his BSc (1995) and MSc (2000) from Mansoura University, Egypt and his LicEng (2006) and PhD (2008) from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. In 2007, he joined the multiphase group in Epsilon (Consultant Engineering firm), Gothenburg, Sweden, as a senior CFD engineer. In January 2009, he joined the Birmingham Centre for Rail Research and Education as a research fellow for 18 months before moving to the current appointment. His research interests range from fundamental Thermofluids and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to applied engineering for Train Aerodynamics. Dr Hemida has established a strong world-wide reputation in the field of CFD and its application for train aerodynamics. He is a pioneer in using the novel unsteady computational approach, Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) for the flow around trains. He has been involved in many research projects, looking at slipstream and side-wind forces on trains and buses, sponsored by RRUK, Network Rail, Swedish agency for academic research (VINNOVA), Scania and Bombardier. Beside his expertise in CFD, Dr Hemida has also been involved in a number of projects including Finite Element Analysis of Train-Rail interaction. The quality of his research has been recognised through 13 journal papers and over 20 peer reviewed conference papers, one of them has been awarded the best conference paper in 2007.

He obtained both his PhD degree in the Built Environment and Master of Philosophy degree in Renewable Energy Technologies from the University of Nottingham. He is qualified Mechanical Engineer with a proven track record within the water industry and renewable energy technologies. He has been graduated from University of El Menoufia, Egypt, BSc in Mechanical Engineering. His previous experience involved being a member of the research team at the National Council for Research/Energy Research Institute in Sudan and working director of research and development for National Water Equipment Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Sudan. He has been listed in the book WHO’S WHO in the World 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010. He has published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 200 review articles, 17 books and 150 chapters in books.

Dimitris Drikakis is the Vice President for Global Partnerships and Executive Director, Research and Innovation at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. He has a joint professor’s appointment in the School of Sciences and Engineering, and Medical School. Prior to that, he held academic and executive posts as Professor, Executive Dean (Strathclyde Univ), and Head of Aerospace (Cranfield University) over a period of 24 years; he has also held senior academic/research posts in Germany and France. His research is multidisciplinary and covers topics of engineering science and emerging technologies, including fluid mechanics, acoustics, materials, computational science with applications to aerospace, biomedicine, defence, and energy sectors. He has received the William Penney Fellowship Award by the UK’s AWE Plc in recognition of his contributions to multicomponent flows; and the Innovator of the Year Award (2014) by the UK’s Innovation Institute for a new generation carbon capture nanotechnology device. He has co-authored two books and has published 430 papers in journals and conference proceedings. He has graduated 45 PhD students who now hold positions in academia and industries around the world. He has also been an Assoc. Editor of Computers and Fluids; Journal of Fluids Engineering; The Aeronautical Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society; Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience; (advisory board) Physics of Fluids; as well as serves on editorial boards in several journals in the fields of Engineering (Aerospace, Biomedical, Energy, Defence), Computational Science, Applied Physics, and Nanotechnology. Richard Spontak, a Distinguished Professor at NC State University, received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Penn State and UC Berkeley, respectively. He has >290 peer-reviewed journal publications and >35 book chapters and invited works, and his research has been featured on 30 journal covers and cited over 13,000 times. He has received numerous honors including the ACS Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award, the IOM3 Colwyn Medal and the SPE International Award. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry, and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences.

Rodman Linn (Rod) is a senior scientist a in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  Rod has been performing research in the area of wildland fire modeling since 1995.  For over two decades, he has served as principal investigator for a process-based coupled fire/atmosphere model, FIRETEC. Rod leads LANL efforts to use next-generation process-based wildfire models for the study of fundamental wildfire behaviour, evaluation of prescribed fire tactics, understanding influences of complex environmental conditions on fire behaviour, risk assessment for critical facilities and wildfire’s interaction with other landscape disturbances such as insects or drought.  Most recently he has partnered with a group of researchers at LANL, USFS and Tall Timbers to apply what has been learned through physics-based wildfire modelling to the development of a new type of fast-running simulation tool that can be applied to prescribed fire applications.
